DCC's founders started the club in 2004 on the now-defunct Yahoo Groups. The first film the club saw was I Heart Huckabees, on October 28, 2004, at the Mayan Theatre. The club used this domain, denvercinemaclub.com, to track the films it saw. You can see the club's movie log on the internet archive web site. (Be patient, it's slow.)

In 2011, the club moved to Meetup. The first film the group saw after moving was The Tree of Life, on July 14, 2011, at the Esquire Theatre. Click here to see what the club's Meetup page looked like in August of 2011.

In its early days, the club saw films at regular intervals--first bi-weekly, then weekly--and members voted on which film to see. When the club moved to Meetup, the weekly events became extremely popular, and members would RSVP weeks in advance to hold their spots. Around 2013, we stopped the polling--it was work!--gradually added organizers, and started scheduling multiple events a week. We now have fourteen organizers, plus our fabulous professor, John Anzalone, and in 2025 we hosted 400 events.

In November of 2024, we threw a party to celebrate the club's 20th anniversary. Unfortunately, the club's early organizers couldn't make it, but we are forever grateful for what they started. Here's to our next 20 years!
