Sundance in Boulder - Indiewire article

Interesting article about Sundance challenges of recent years, and what the Sundance community wants to see solved in Boulder. My favorite film festivals (Telluride, Santa Fe) have featured multiple venues within walking distance to one another, with bars and restaurants in the same vicinity. What's really fun is when everyone gets out of a movie and wanders to the same bar between shows. Sounds like Park City used to offer that in "the good old days". I've wondered since this announcement was made if Boulder could pull that off. Pearl Street is walkable but only has two very mediocre venues in use for the BIFF (Boulder Theater is fun for concerts but sucks for film). Other potential venues in Boulder are so far-flung a shuttle would have to be used, which really reduces the potential for the festival to feel clustered in one area. What do you think Boulder will do, build more venues? Run a shuttle (ugh)?

Have you heard about this, Christy? This Daily Camera article says a developer is planning a 2500-seat venue that could be used for Sundance. It's "near Frontier Ave between Pearl Parkway and Foothills Parkway" which does look like a shuttle ride from downtown. Here's the web site for the project.

Oh, interesting! That's not too terrible of a location since it's a straight shot down Pearl. Does lead to the dreaded too-far-to-walk scenario (it's only a mile, though). Better than way up into campus with all the heavy traffic and such between Pearl and CU.
